Beautiful ly written Scott. Sending hopes and prayers to my cousin Judy, Ed, and the family. We were blessed to be close with the Luchies growing up and similarly as we all grow old. Blessings to the family. Tell Judy, the Homan’s are thinking of her often and she is in our prayers.

Thank you for sharing this with us! Such an incredible reminder how important life is and being present for the moments that matter most. Sending love and prayers to your family. And just know if you need to take a pause as you navigate this very difficult journey, we will be here when you get back! There are more important things than college football (even though we all love it so much) 💛

Scott, as a fellow mid-lifer, you are experiencing my worst nightmare. Parents are everything and reading your column just made me get a little misty-eyed and prompted me to call my mom. I'm glad she's flying to visit me in Texas here soon, where I'll make sure to get her plenty of Mighty Swell drinks (for some reason she can't find them outside of Austin) and spend tons of time just hanging out with her. Your story will be on my mind the entire time. Please be well, and please let the newsletter go for a bit in order to be with family.

Scott, I am so sorry to read this, your mom sounds like an amazing person. Glad you're getting to spend time with her. While I look forward to your newsletter before and after every game in the Fall, if you didn't write a single other newsletter this year to spend time with your family I'd still keep my subscription - it's already well exceeded the small amount I pay for it. Sending love to you and your family.

Scott, my prayers are with you and your family. I never seen your Mom without a smile on her face. She can continue to smile as she knows where she is going.

God bless you, your family, and your dear mother. May she rest in peace, surrounded by all her loved ones who preceded her to Heaven. And may God give you and your siblings and other family the strength to bear her loss. I pray her memory is a blessing. Go blue all the way.

You and your family are in my prayers. I was where you are earlier this year…a devastating diagnosis and then the end. Lean on hospice. They are amazing at what they do but don’t hesitate to ask the questions and push if you feel your mom needs different pain medication or something for her comfort. Cherish every moment you have. Cancer is awful but it does give you the gift of being able to say all you need to say to someone you love before they go. Your mom sounds amazing and how lucky you have been to have her in your life.

I imagine the only color worse than green in your mind is scarlet. But as an Ohio State fan who went to college in West Michigan, your home is kinda like my second home. I have plenty of friends who root for both of those team up north, and beyond the fun rivalries is things that are much more important. This was very touching and I pray God's peace and comfort for your family.

Scott,

Your mother has been such a wonderful blessing to everyone she knows. Always kind, always smiling & an amazing cook. We live a block away from your parents & I pray for your family every time I drive or walk by and I’ll continue to do so. Your parents raised some pretty great kids & that’s a wonderful accomplishment. Your family is loved.

Scott, Pastor Len and I are praying for your family and especially your mom and dad. I will always remember her cooking with your grandma at church camp and all the chatting we did between meals. Such great memories of your family. I also remember your birth and the difficulties you experienced but their faith kept your parents strong through it all.

I’ve often wondered how you were doing in Texas but didn’t want to find out this way! Congratulations on expecting your third child. May the God of peace grant you and your family peace through this journey.

Thank you for sharing your story. Last Saturday I sat next to my mom in the ICU and watched the Indiana game with her. She has end stage lung cancer and we are about to enter the hospice stage of the disease. She did not go to Michigan, but became a die hard the day she moved me into Alice Lloyd in 1996, and we have shared that bond ever since. I wish you strength and peace going to through your situation with your mom, one that is all too familiar to me.

Wow, Scott. I'm a pathologist. Although I rarely meet them, I diagnose patients with cancer everyday. It's easy to forget what those diagnoses mean for the people and family receiving them. I read this at my desk as I'm wrapping up my day, and I'm trying to not make it obvious to the people walking by that I was crying. Thank you for your words and vulnerability.

I've enjoyed your takes on Twitter, but this was the best thing you've ever shared. Lost my mom on Christmas Eve in 2021 to her battle with cancer. After being in remission, the cancer returned, and changed a lot of sports things for me. The last game we watched together was the Penn State game in 2021. Praying for you and your whole family Scott.

Thank you, Scott, for this beautiful tribute to your mother. And thanks also for the wonderful pictures accompanying your tribute. As others have said, you are honoring your mother and your upbringing by keeping your priorities straight in this difficult time, and your newsletter -- as enjoyable as it is to read -- is not a priority at the moment. Sending prayers to you and your family, and hoping that your time together provides strength and comfort in the days to come.
