2024 Big Ten preview (DL): Michigan finds itself as top dog thanks to elite interior

We’ve reached the second half of July. Which means it’s time for the second half of my Big Ten preview series. If you’re a Michigan fan and you were getting pretty sick of seeing the Wolverines a few tiers down the list on the offensive side of things, you’re in luck. Things look a lot better on this side of the ball.
I have a bit of a revised rollout schedule to share. Thanks to the recovery period of a tonsil removal surgery for my five-year-old being much longer and much more involved than I ever would have imagined, I had to push this installment of the series to today, which is when I was supposed to tackle linebackers. But I’m still committed to getting this all done by the end of the month. Here’s the plan for now (and seriously, if any of your kids ever have to get their tonsils removed, brace yourselves for two weeks of hell):
Tuesday, July 2: QBs (read here)
Friday, July 5: RBs (read here)
Tuesday, July 9: WR/TEs (read here)
Friday, July 12: OL (read here)
Today: DL
Tuesday, July 23: LBs
Friday, July 26: DBs
Tuesday, July 30: Special teams/overall team wrap-ups

And with that out of the way, let’s officially kick off the defensive portion of this preview and break down defensive lines, which I expect to be Michigan’s heart and soul this fall.
