Week 4 viewing guide
Your patience has been rewarded.
After a Week 3 that looked like the worst slate of the season on paper — and lived up to the poor billing once the games were actually played — you get a Week 4 slate that’s on the complete other extreme this weekend. There are 6(!) head-to-head, ranked vs. ranked matchups, meaning 44% of all ranked opponents are playing against fellow ranked opponents this weekend.
Of the six remaining unbeaten Big Ten schools, four of them are playing head-to-head matchups against a fellow unbeaten B1G squad.
To put it simply, this is going to be the biggest week of college football in 2023, and might hold that title until at least Conference Championship Weekend rolls around.
Because of this, I’m going to tweak my weekly format a bit. I’ll still break down Michigan’s game and highlight the three biggest non-Michigan Big Ten matchups — with predictions on the way for all Big Ten matchups big and small, both straight and against the spread. But instead of highlight three non-conference games, too, I’m going to multiply that significantly, putting a spotlight on 10 different non-Big Ten games worth keeping an eye on this weekend. And not only that, I’ll rank them from 1-10 in terms of watchability.
If you’ve got plans with the family on Saturday, cancel them. If you’re not sure how well received that will be, my suggestion is to barricade yourself into your house now, change your locks and then just deal with the consequences on Sunday. Even if it means the end of a marriage, what a way to go out, right?
But like I mentioned above, we’ve got 14(!) games to get to this week, so let’s get to the breakdowns.
