Week 2 viewing guide: Breaking down/predicting Michigan vs. Oklahoma, plus other key games from around the country

We’re back for Week 2 of the college football season. And while the Week 2 slate isn’t anything like the jam-packed slate from a week ago, it’s certainly a more relevant week for Michigan as the Wolverines head to Norman to take on Oklahoma in the week’s only ranked vs. ranked matchup — one that College Gameday will be coming to town for.
Today’s newsletter will largely center around my breakdown and prediction for the Michigan-Oklahoma game, a matchup with major implications for both programs’ College Football Playoff aspirations. But it will also include predictions and games to watch for other matchups around the country.
For those of you who may need a reminder, my weekly viewing guides typically include the following:
My breakdown and prediction (both straight and against the spread) of Michigan’s game
My choices for the three biggest Big Ten games of the week that don’t involve Michigan, including predictions straight and against the spread
My choices for the three biggest non-Big Ten games of the weekend, including predictions straight and against the spread
Rapid-fire predictions for all other Big Ten games, both straight and against the spread.
Results-wise, opening week was really successful with the 18 Big Ten games, but quite forgettable for the three big non-B1G games from Week 1. I was on the right side of Michigan coming up short against the spread and nailed Ohio State’s win over No. 1 Texas. I was also right in projecting Florida State-Alabama far closer than Vegas did by predicting the Seminoles to cover, but I never could’ve imagined an outright upset. And while Notre Dame came all the way back and tied it up late, Miami (FL) beat the Irish in the Sunday night matchup — one I was very confident Notre Dame would win.
So now we move forward to Week 2. Before doing so, here are the results of my 2025 picks so far:
2025 results
Michigan games
Straight: 1-0
Against the spread: 1-0
B1G games
Straight: 18-0
Against the spread: 10-8
Overall
Straight: 18-3
Against the spread: 11-10
Today’s newsletter will also include my latest Big Ten Power Rankings. As the season goes on and there are more data points out there to necessitate movement throughout the rankings, the power rankings will be a standalone newsletter. But in the early stages of the season, I’ll just be treating it as an add-on to my weekly viewing guides.
