Week 2 viewing guide
Another week, another slate of games to highlight as great TV options this weekend. And hey, maybe we can make some nice prognostications in the process.
Some good news on that prediction front: I nailed the Michigan game last week, both straight and against the spread. Some, uh, not-so-great news — I predicted other games, too. And more often than not, I was the nail in that equation and not the hammer.
In Big Ten games, I went 10-1 for the week straight, with Purdue’s home loss to Fresno State being my lone blemish. It was less impressive in an ATS capacity, though, with a 5-6 mark there. Then my non-B1G games were borderline disastrous, going 1-2 straight and 0-3 ATS in those matchups (which, to be fair, were picked because of their close spreads).
Either way, I boasted about my 2022 record in last week’s write-up and knew I was probably stepping in it. And step in it I did. Lesson learned (until I have a great week, in which case this lesson of humility will be quickly forgotten).
Before we get to this week’s shot at redemption, a reminder of how this works: Every week, I’ll spotlight seven must-watch games in this spot — Michigan’s matchup, three hand-picked Big Ten games and three hand-picked non-B1G contests — and make my predictions, plus provide rapid-fire picks on all other Big Ten games, too — both straight and against the spread.
This year, I’m also going to add a poll to get the readers’ thoughts on how Michigan performs against the spread that week (last week, y’all narrowly took ECU+36 over Michigan-36 by a 51%-49% margin — so nice start on your end).
Let’s get to it.
