Hello, everyone. Hope y’all had a great holiday season. After a few weeks away, we’re right back into football time. And it’s not just any football game — it’s Michigan’s first trip to the Rose Bowl in close to two decades, and one with plenty on the line. But before we get into Michigan-Alabama content (I’ll be doing a subscriber Q&A during the day Monday where I’ll take any and all questions leading up to that game), I thought I’d do a fun end-of-season exercise that takes a look back to the preseason.

Leading up to the 2023 season, I tried something new and threw a new wrinkle into my offseason content rotation. It was titled “60 takeaways on 60 players: A closer look at the deepest U-M football team in decades.”

It was an exercise designed to show off the absurd amount of depth Michigan boasted on its roster heading into the season. It was also an opportunity to write a little something on some of the players whose contributions go overlooked on the team. And now that there’s a baseline to compare it to, this postseason edition serves as a great opportunity to show which players exceeded expectations, which ones didn’t, and what it all means.

So let’s dig in and give a second crack at ranking this roster from 1-60 with the first annual Roster Ranking Exercise — v 2.0.
