2023 U-M football fan survey (Part 1): Just how satisfied are you with recruiting, NIL and more?

Earlier this summer, I sent out my 2023 Michigan football fan survey to subscribers of this newsletter. I had to lock responses in less than a 36-hour period thanks to the quick and comprehensive response from y’all. There were more than 500 unique ballots with more than 15,000 total votes cast across a variety of different questions. While it’s not completely uniform, as some people opted out of answering a few questions they’re not familiar with or not interested in, it’s pretty even across the board and should provide a pretty good glimpse into how the Michigan fanbase feels heading into a 2023 season that could end up being very big for this program. Like last year, I’ll be sharing my own person thoughts and feelings about each question, too, and showing the spots where I’m in lockstep with the fanbase as well as the spots where I’m not on the same page with everyone else.
Also like last year, I’ll be breaking up results of this survey into three different parts (last year’s results can be found here (part 1), here (part 2) and here (part 3). My hope is to roll all three parts out over the next few days before pivoting to other usual staples that are a part of my season previews later in the month (expert roundtable, drafting the team from scratch, etc).
Also, please keep an eye out for an announcement in the next week or so about the newsletter’s annual fantasy college football leagues, open for free to all premium subscribers. I’ll be paying out winners out of my own pocket again this fall as a way to say thank you to those who choose to pay and support this product.
For now, though, let’s dig into the first part of the 2023 U-M football fan survey. This first patch of questions deals with the fanbase’s satisfaction level on a number of hot-button issues, including NIL, recruiting, playcalling, Jim Harbaugh and more.
